About The Toldo Company

The Toldo Company is a full-service general contracting firm rooted in a multigenerational tradition of skilled trades, civic leadership, and craftsmanship that spans more than a century. Owner and operator Jared Toldo brings to every project a heritage forged by remarkable men — each a leader in his own right — and a personal commitment to carrying that legacy forward through the art and science of building. That commitment now extends to the next generation, as his son Frederick Toldo, 24, works full-time alongside him, learning every facet of the trade.

Jared and his wife Robin built their life together in Grand Rapids, Michigan over 27 years of marriage. Now residents of Noank, CT, and Fishers Island, NY, they are the proud parents of six children — three sons and three daughters —and were recently blessed with their first grandson, born to their eldest daughter and her husband.

History of the Build

A Legacy Built by Hand

The story of The Toldo Company begins long before Jared ever broke ground on his first project. It begins with the men who shaped him.

Frederick Harold Toldo, Jared's grandfather, was a man of uncommon range and character. A police officer in Stonington, Connecticut, he also served as a Selectman — a public servant in the truest sense — and left a lasting mark on an entire industry when he founded the National Chimney Sweep Guild in 1951. His influence on the chimney sweep trade was so enduring that the Massachusetts Chimney Sweep Guild named its most prestigious award — the Fred Toldo Award — in his honor, given to those who go above and beyond to bring education and professionalism to the industry. For more on Frederick's contributions to the trade, visit SNEWS — The Chimney Sweep News, the industry's foremost publication and a chronicler of the guild's founding history.

Stephen John Toldo, Jared's father, was a master stone mason whose work graced some of the most distinguished private estates in southeastern Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island. Much of his finest work was executed in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, where he served a clientele of considerable distinction. Among his notable commissions:

  • The King Family — former owners of King World Productions, the storied media company behind some of America's most iconic television programming.

  • The Bantle Family — principals of UST Inc., one of the nation's leading consumer products companies.

  • A landmark private estate in Greenwich, Connecticut — a faithful architectural replica of the famed Château Ste. Michelle vineyard estate — for which Stephen executed all of the stonework in Texas Limestone, a project requiring both exceptional technical skill and an artist's eye for detail.

Stephen's work stands today as a testament to what stone masonry can be when executed at the highest level — structures built not just to endure, but to inspire.

Roots That Reach to the Old World

The family's tradition of building with one's hands goes back still further, across the Atlantic. Constantine Brusa, Jared's great-grandfather, emigrated from Italy and co-founded Fraquelli & Brusa Monument Company, a firm whose history is preserved at the Smith-Babcock Museum in Westerly, Rhode Island. Constantine's journey — from the old country to New England, building something lasting from stone — is the original chapter in a story that continues to this day.
